| Test Name: |
MAGNESIUM - (P)
Test Code:
MG
|
||||
| Clinical Information: |
Test Indications:
Magnesium is a major intracellular cation that functions as a cofactor of many enzyme systems. All ATP-dependent enzymatic reactions require magnesium as a cofactor in the ATP-magnesium complex. The serum magnesium level is kept constant within very narrow limits and is regulated by the kidneys. This assay is used for the diagnosis and monitoring of hypo-magnesemia (magnesium deficiency) and hyper-magnesemia (magnesium excess). |
