Clinical Information:
Prealbumin is synthesized in the liver and functions as a binding protein for the transport of thyroxine and retinol-binding protein. Prealbumin levels are significantly decreased in malnutrition so it is useful in the assessment of nutritional status and monitoring of parenteral nutrition.

Samples must be transferred to an aliquot tube and stored frozen if analysis will not be complete within 48 hours (#110-10-05 Serum / Plasma Separation Procedure & Transport)
