Salicylate is a common drug used for its analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory properties. Salicylate overdose can cause metabolic acidosis with a high anion gap, gastrointestinal and central nervous system disturbances, as well as encephalopathy and renal failure. Salicylate testing is used to evaluate toxicity.
