Laboratory: Clinical Biochemistry
Test Name:
URIC ACID - (P)
Test Code: UA
Clinical Information:
Uric acid is the final product of purine metabolism. Uric acid measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment of numerous renal and metabolic disorders, including renal failure, gout, leukemia, psoriasis, starvation or other wasting conditions, and of patients receiving cytotoxic drugs. In addition, elevated serum uric acid levels at the initial presentation of gestational hypertension may indicate heightened risk of progression to preeclampsia and development of adverse maternal/infant conditions.
