Clinical Information:
Test Indications: This test is useful for evaluating patients with possible peroxisomal disorders.
 
An aid in the assesment of peroxisomal function.
 
Reports include concentration of C26 and calculated C24/C22 and C26/C22 ratios.
 
Method: Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) by London Health Sciences Centre, Ontario (ICL).

Patient Preparation Instructions: Overnight fasting recommended (12-14 hours) or as possible (pediatric).
 
Patient must not consume any alcohol for 24 hours before the sample is drawn.
Collection Devices:
Collect FASTING specimen. Send immediately to laboratory for processing.
Specimen Required:


Plasma: 3.0 mL
Pediatric Plasma: 2.0 mL

Send immediately to the Metabolic Lab.
Referral:

Separate within 45 min and freeze. Store and send frozen to Metabolic Lab (HSC).
 
Refrigerated also accepted.
