SUCCINYLACETONE, (BLOOD SPOT)

Clinical Information:
Patients with Tyr 1 who are treated with diet and/or NTBC should have declining or normal values of blood spot succinylacetone.  Normal levels may be seen in affected individuals undergoing treatment.
Collection Devices:
1 Blood spot card (Mayo supply T493)

Alternate Device: Microtainer EDTA no gel

Specimen Required: For best patient care collect as a blood spot (use Mayo card T494 or newborn screen card and cross out Cadham information and label with patient name and unique identifier matching requisition).  Blood Spot Card (5 spots).  Minimum 1 spot.  Let blood dry on the filter paper at room temperature in a horizontal position for 3 hours.  Do not expose specimen to heat or direct sunlight.  Do not stack wet specimens.  Keep specimen dry. Only collect as EDTA if unable to spot directly
