Clinical Information:
Test indications: Apolipoprotein A1 testing is rarely indicated. Apolipoprotein A1 levels are useful for the diagnosis of hypoalphalipoproteinemia, in patients with very low HDL cholesterol concentrations < 2.0 mmol/L by measurement. Patients with Apolipoprotein A1 values <0.1 g/L should be referred to a specialist lipid clinic.
 

Apolipoprotein A1 is a component of the Fibrotest liver fibrosis calculation. The Fibrotest is important in the assessment of fibrosis staging in patients with viral hepatitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
 

Test Approval Requirements: This test is for use by the Next Generation Diabetes Cohort Study (Dr. Wicklow), lipid clinic, hepatologists and cardiologists.
