Plasma Citrulline concentration is a reliable quantitative biomarker for enterocyte mass and absorptive capacity. This test replaced D-Xylose Absorption Test.

Adult: overnight fasting
Children: 4 hours of fasting or collected prior to next feeding

CSF, Plasma or Urine may be ordered for other needs. Register with applicable test code as per specimen type:

1 - Li Heparin, NO GEL 4.0 mL Tube(s) - Full Tube Collection
Alternate Device:
1 - Microtainer(s) - EDTA, NO GEL (0.5 mL) to fill line
Preferred device: Fasting sample collected ON ICE.
Alternative device: or 1 Lithium Heparin PST Microtainer - infants collected prior to next feeding, sample collected ON ICE.
Lithium Heparin, Na Heparin or EDTA with or without barrier gel tube(s) also acceptable.
FASTING sample collected ON ICE.
