Test indications:
This test is not to be used for general screening for thiamine deficiency. It should only be requested on patients at risk of being thiamine deficient. This is the recommended test for assessment of body stores. Patient Preparation: Fasting overnight (12-14 hours). Infants - Draw prior to next feeding. Water can be taken as needed. Cautions: Vitamin supplementation and nonfasting specimens may result in elevated thiamine diphosphate concentrations. |

Whole Blood: 2.0 mL
Pediatric Whole Blood: 2.0 mL
Collect a fasting specimen. Protect from light within 1 hour of collection and during storage and transport. Store and send frozen. If the specimen thaws it is unsuitable for analysis. |
