Description: A crossmatch is a pre-transfusion laboratory test performed to confirm compatibility between specific donor red cell unit and a specific patient before transfusion that is performed usually in conjunction with a type and screen test.
Requests for blood / blood components must indicate the number of units required. (ie. indicate # needed of either red cells or platelets or both).
