Clinical Information:
These specimens must be fresh and unfixed.  Eye scrapings can be alcohol fixed or air-dried smears.
 
Requisition MUST indicate whether slides are fixed or air-dried.

*IMPORTANT: label frosted end of the slides with and requisition with patient’s name and PHIN.
All clinical information must be indicated on the requisition.
Collection Devices:
Specimen Required: Bronchial washings and lavages are ideal specimens for identification (sputum or urine samples can also be used). Eye scrapings may also be taken.

0800 - 1630 HSC and 0800 - 1600 SBH. For after-hours procedure on weekends for respiratory specimens ONLY, call pathologist/pathology resident on-call (24/7). On-call Cytotechnologist available weekends 9am to 5pm.

All specimens must be properly labeled with appropriate patient identification.  All specimens must be accompanied by a fully completed Cytology requisition.  Pertinent information including patient demographics, clinical history, physician’s name, and specimen type is required as per DSM Specimen Acceptance Policy 10-50-03.
