Lab staff to contact HSC NEUROPATHOLOGY LAB (1-204-787-4615), before procedure is performed.  (Weekdays:  0800 - 1430 hrs only).

Optimally, muscle biopsy tissue should be frozen under strictly controlled conditions at the Neuropathology Lab within 30 minutes of attaining it.  Proper freezing of skeletal muscle biopsy for enzyme histochemistry interpretation is a necessity and has to be the first priority.
Do not attempt to freeze the muscle yourself.
Outside Institutions:
Transport the biopsy to HSC, in a fresh state, wrapped in saline moistened gauze, with an ice pack, within 1 hour if within city limits and will only be accepted within 12 hours maximum if outside the city, using our transportation kit.
If metabolic disorders are suspected, it is strongly advised that the patient be sent to HSC for the procedure.
Enzymes are very labile; therefore, short transportation time is better.
A detailed patient history, including drug and family history, also EMG and creatine kinase results must accompany all specimens.
