Test performed at: St. Boniface Hospital
This test is intended for routine (same day) service requests. Collect blood for carboxyhemoglobin analysis as soon as possible following exposure to carbon monoxide. Half-life of carboxyhemoglobin in a patient is 320 min when breathing room air and 80 min when breathing 100% oxygen. Once collected, unopened sample is stable for 2 weeks. |

Blood: 4.0 mL
Blood for carboxyhemoglobin analysis should be drawn as soon as possible after possible exposure to Carbon Monoxide. Sample is stable for two weeks in an unopened tube at room or refrigerator temperature. Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere.
