Test performed at: St. Boniface Hospital
This test is intended for routine (same day) service requests. Collect blood for carboxyhemoglobin analysis as soon as possible following exposure to carbon monoxide. Half-life of carboxyhemoglobin in a patient is 320 min when breathing room air and 80 min when breathing 100% oxygen. Once collected, unopened sample is stable for 2 weeks. |

Blood is not to be centrifuged. HSC in-patients and acute samples will be dealt with directly by Respiratory. Collect out-patient blood for carboxyhemoglobin analysis and send without delay to SBH Chemistry.
