-A normal D-Dimer test, after clinical examination, in the setting of outpatients/ emergency departments, and using a validated algorithm (e.g. Well’s Score) can be helpful to exclude VTE in low risk patients.  However, an elevated D-Dimer level can be found in wide variety of clinical settings, and is non-specific.
