This test is not to be used for general screening for Vitamin B6 deficiency.  It should only be requested on patients at risk of being Vitamin B6 deficient.
Fasting (12-14 h) recommended, but non-fasting is acceptable.

Specimens must be separated and frozen within 1 hour of collection.

Spin and separate within 1 hour of collection. Protect from light by wrapping in foil.  Specimen must be labeled inside and outside of light-protecting wrap.  Store and send frozen to In-Common Laboratories.  If specimen thaws, it is unsuitable for analysis.
