Laboratory: Clinical Biochemistry  (AUTOMATED)
Test Name:
UREA CREATININE RATIO - (P)
Test Code: --
Clinical Information:
The urea creatinine ratio is automatically calculated when urea and creatinine has been ordered at the same time.

It is used to help determine if the cause of increased blood urea is pre renal, renal, or post renal in origin. An increased ratio indicates a pre renal origin provided that there is no liver disease or starvation.

Urea/Creatinine Ratio = [Urea (mmol/L) x 1000] / Creatinine (µmol/L)

The conversion factor of 1000 in the equation is to compensate for the difference in units between urea and creatinine.
