Clinical Information:
Description:  Used in the evaluation of liver disease. Elevated ALT observed in most forms of hepatic disease due to processes that affect cell integrity: hepatitis, cirrhosis, obstructive jaundice, carcinoma of liver, and chronic alcohol abuse.
 
Patients B6 status does not affect this assay.
Collection Devices:
Acceptable specimen include serum with or without gel.
Specimen Required:


Plasma: 2.0 mL
Pediatric Plasma: 0.3 mL

Specimen Stability:
Ambient: 3 days
Refrigerated: 7 days

Frozen: at least 7 days at -70°C (freeze only once)

Shipping and Storage: 

Samples must be transferred to an aliquot tube and stored/shipped

·       Refrigerated if off-site testing to be performed within 24 hours of collection

·       Frozen if testing to be performed after 24 hours
