Evaluation of patients with suspected inborn errors of amino acid metabolism.

Monitoring patients with aminoacidopathies.

Specimen Required:
Urine: 10.0 mL
Pediatric Urine: 1.0 mL

Prepare TWO aliquots immediately after collection.

One aliquot for urine creatinine to Automated chemistry can be sent refrigerated and the second aliquot for amino acid testing MUST be FROZEN within 1 hour of collection.

 

DO NOT freeze and ship 100 mL urine container.


Specimen Stability:

Ambient: Not stable

Refrigerated: 4 hours (excluding thiol-containing amino acids)

Frozen: 14 days at -20C or 60 days at -80C

Referral:

Store and ship aliquots frozen. Thawed samples are not suitable for testing.

 

Additional aliquot must be shipped for urine creatinine.

 

Do NOT ship frozen 100 mL urine containers.
