PCO2 (iSTAT) - (B)
Test Code: PCOA
Only available in rural Manitoba.
State whether the sample is venous or arterial.
Skin puncture: lancet and capillary collection tube (plain, lithium heparin, or balanced heparin for electrolytes and blood gases)
Venipuncture: lithium or sodium heparin collection tubes and disposable transfer device
(e.g. 1cc syringe and a 16 to 20 gauge needle)
Arterial puncture: Plain syringe or blood gas syringe with heparin and labeled for the assays performed
Only available at sites which perform iStat testing onsite.
Venous & Capillary: 41 – 51 mmHg
Arterial: 35 – 45 mmHg
Note: Reference ranges are specific to the Abbott iStat (POC instrument)
Turn around time (TAT): < 60 minutes
Specimen Handling: In patient samples where the PO2 is > 100 mmHg above the normal range (80-105 mmHg) an increase in PCO2 of approximately 1.5 mmHg (with a range of 0.9 to 2.0 mmHg) may be observed for every 100 mmHg increase in PO2.
