Clinical Information:
1.  Aspirates and tissues are superior to swab samples for the isolation of anaerobes
2.  Submit specimens directly to laboratory.  Do not transport specimen in needle & syringe.
3.  Dry swabs are unsuitable.
4.  The anatomical source of the specimen must be supplied.
5.  Specimens from body sites with indigeneous anaerobes are unsuitable (ie. sputum).
6.  If aerobes are also requested on a swab specimen, a separate swab must be submitted.
7.  Indicate current antimicrobic therapy on requesting requisition.
