Test Indications:
1. Query Fanconi anemia 2. Query aplastic anemia diagnosed at 50 years or younger. Please refer to Aplastic Anemia comprehensive analysis LIM for a list of complementary diagnostic testing. Testing is sent out to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, ON. Ordering is restricted to oncologists, hematologists, and clinical geneticists. For assistance or questions, please contact Genomics Laboratory Genetic Counselor at 204-787-4033 or GenomicsLabGC@sharedhealthmb.ca Recommendations: Please include all relevant patient clinical history, disease course, and family history in the relevant sections of the specified requisition. This information is required by the referred out laboratory for test interpretation. |

Specimen Required: |
Whole Blood: 6.0 mL
Pediatric Whole Blood: 2.0 mL
Adult: Whole Blood 6.0mL (2 tubes Na Heparin) Pediatric: Whole Blood 2.0mL (1 tube Na Heparin) The sample must be collected Monday to Wednesday in the early morning and received in the Cytogenetics Laboratory by noon on the same day to allow for sample shipping to referred out laboratory. |

Do NOT centrifuge. Store and ship specimens at room temperature.

Reference Values: |
An interpretive report from the reference laboratory will be forwarded to the physician.

Availability: |
Weekdays (Mon to Thurs)
Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday preferred. Thursday possible with prior coordination with laboratory staff. Friday, Saturday, Sunday samples will be rejected.

Specimen Handling: Once specimens are collected, the blood samples should be kept at room temperature and transported promptly to Health Sciences Centre Central Services, MS551-820 Sherbrook St.
The sample must be sent out the same day it is collected or the test integrity may be compromised. |
