Clinical Information:

Description: Percent iron saturation of transferrin (%TSAT) is used to properly interpret plasma iron.

It is calculated automatically using plasma iron and total iron binding capacity (TIBC).
% TSAT = (Plasma Iron/TIBC)x100%

Patient preparation instructions: Patient should fast 12 hours prior to specimen collection.
Iron containing supplements should be avoided for 24 hours.
Specimens should be collected in the morning as iron levels decrease throughout the day.
