Test Name: |
FLECAINIDE - (S)
Test Code:
MISC
|
Clinical Information: |
This test is useful for optimizing dosage, assessing toxicity or monitoring compliance of Flecainide. Flecainide (Tambocor) is a class I cardiac antiarrhythmic agent with electrophysiologic properties similar to lidocaine, quinidine, procainamide, and tocainide. The effects of Flecainide are dose-related and plasma concentration-related.
Flecainide is eliminated from blood by hepatic metabolism as well as renal clearance; significant changes in either organ system will cause impaired clearance. |
Collection Devices: |
Preferred Device:
Do not use separator gel.
|
Specimen Required: |
Serum: 3.0 mL
Do not use separator gel. Specimen Required: 3 ml serum. Sample must be centrifuged and serum aliquoted off within 2 hours of collection. |
Referral: |
Ship at 4 degrees C
|
Requisition: | |
Reference Values: |
Therapeutic concentration: 0.2 - 1.0 µg/mL
Toxic concentration: >1.0 µg/mL Flecainide is most effective in premature ventricular contractions suppression at plasma concentrations in the range of 0.2 to 1.0 µg/mL. Plasma concentrations >1.0 µg/mL are associated with a high rate of cardiac adverse experiences such as conduction defects or bradycardia. |
