Laboratory: Clinical Biochemistry  (SENDOUTS)
Test Name:
LEAD - (U)
Test Code: PBU
Clinical Information:
If the patient is receiving EDTA or pencillamine therapy, this should be noted on the requisition.

Test Indications: Detecting clinically significant recent lead exposure. Increased urine lead excretion rate indicates significant recent lead exposure. Measurement of urine lead excretion rate before and after chelation therapy is not recommended (Reference: American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT 2010)). Urinary lead concentration increases exponentially with blood lead and can exhibit relatively high intra-individual variability.
