Clinical Information:
Plasma proteins are synthesized in the liver, plasma cells, lymph nodes, spleen and bone marrow. Total protein measurements are used in the diagnosis and management of a variety of diseases involving the liver, kidney, or bone marrow as well as metabolic or nutritional disorders.

Reference ranges are for a hospital-based recumbent population.  Ambulatory patients have a reference range approximately 5 g/L higher.

Samples must be transferred to an aliquot tube and stored frozen if analysis will not be complete within 48 hours (#110-10-05 Serum / Plasma Separation Procedure & Transport)
