Description: To monitor the response of treatment of Imatinib in human plasma by liquid chromatography / tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS).

 

Test Approval Requirements: Clinical Biochemist Approval Required

 

Patient preparation instructions: Blood draw must be predose. The blood sample is collected within 12 hours or 24 hours from last dose depending on if the drug is taken twice a day or once a day, respectively.

Specimen Required:
Whole Blood: 4.0 mL

Collect trough specimen, 24 hours post last dose.

 

Special Processing: Centrifuge and separate within 10 min of collection. Aliquot plasma to a transport tube and indicate date and time of last dose and date and time of specimen collection on the requisition. Do not collect Friday to Sunday or prior to a public holiday.

A therapeutic range for Imatinib has not been established.
A review of the literature suggests that maintaining plasma trough concentrations at or above the mean population concentration of ~ 1000 ng/mL could be important for achieving improved cytogenetic and molecular responses.
