Clinical Information:
Collect blood for trough concentration within 45 minutes prior to next dose.  When peak concentrations are required, collect blood 20-40 minutes after the end of the Amikacin infusion.
Time of last dose and next dose must be provided on the laboratory requisition prior to sample processing.
Collection Devices:
Do not use separator gel.
Specimen Required:

Plasma: 2.0 mL
Pediatric Plasma: 0.3 mL

Serum collected without gel is also acceptable.
Reference Values:
Therapeutic: < 10 mg/L
Toxic: > 10 mg/L
Therapeutic: 20 - 40 mg/L
Toxic: > 40 mg/L

Mark time blood was drawn on the requisition.  If samples need to be stored longer than 2 days, they should be frozen, otherwise, send refrigerated to HSC Clinical Chemistry - MS5.
