Clinical Information:
Test Indications:  Testing for Selenium is for the monitoring of patients undergoing TPN nutritional support and is available to gastroenterologists, general and bariatric surgeons.
Selenium is a trace element that has a key role in antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunological activities. Nutritional guidelines recommend monitoring of selenium in patients receiving parenteral nutrition support. Measurement of whole blood selenium is more accurate than plasma or serum levels.
MUST specify "Selenium Whole Blood" on test request form when ordering.
