CHROMOSOME STUDIES IN BLOOD - (B)

Clinical Information:
Test performed at: Health Sciences Centre Cytogenetics Laboratory.
 
Overflow samples are sent to Genetic Associates, Inc.;  Nashville, TN
 
Peripheral blood samples from Manitoban and non-Manitoban patients will be accepted without genetic consult from any Manitoban physician for karyotyping if the patient(s) meet one of the following criteria: 
1.         Three or more recognized pregnancy losses (this includes miscarriages and still births);
2.         Infant with a suspected Down Syndrome;
3.         Primary or secondary amenorrhea
4.         Family history of Down Syndrome with unknown status of index case;
5.         Infertility;
6.         Suspected Klinefelter Syndrome;
7.         Suspected Turner Syndrome; or
8.         Unexplained stillbirth (fetal blood required).
 
All other requests for karyotyping require a consult with the clinical geneticist-on-call (204-787-2071).

Samples may be rejected if requisitions are not properly filled out, the sample is a duplicate sample that has been previously analysed and reported, and/or the sample is received in an inappropriate collection tube.

Weekdays
Weekdays and Saturdays (M-Th, Sat: 0800h - 1600h; Fridays 0800h - 1715h). Closed Sundays and Statutory Holidays. Sample will be processed the next working day.
