Laboratory: Clinical Biochemistry  (SBH ONLY - AUTO)
Test Name:
TSH RECEPTOR ANTIBODY (TRAb) - (S)
Test Code: TRAB
Clinical Information:
Description: TRAb is an autoantibody to the thyroid cell receptor for TSH and observed in 90% patients with Graves’ disease.

TRAb measurements may be useful in following:

·      Diagnosis of clinically suspected Graves’ disease

·      Assessment of the neonatal thyrotoxicosis risk in a fetus of female with Graves’ disease (active or treated)

·      Diagnosis of gestational thyrotoxicosis / recurrent Graves’ disease / normal first trimester of pregnancy

·      Graves’ disease relapse in treated patient

·      Differential diagnosis of thyrotoxicosis in patients with unclear biochemical findings or pregnancy.

Patient preparation instructions: Avoid high biotin doses (i.e. > 300 mg/day) for three days prior to specimen collection.
