Test Indications:
Suprapubic bladder aspiration procedure is performed when neither a clean-catch urine sample nor a specimen from a urethral catheter can be obtained.
Cystocopy urine is used to diagnose, monitor and treat conditions affecting the bladder and urethra.

Recommendations:
- Please provide clinical information as age, gender, presence of symptoms and specimen type impact specimen work-up.
- Please label specimen accordingly.

Patient Preparation Instructions:
These invasive procedures are performed by a qualified physician.
Collection Devices:
Suprapubic Aspirate Urine:  Needle and syringe (5 mL).  Place aspirated urine in BD C&S preservative tube (grey top).  This tube maintains urine specimens for 2 days at room temperature.  Or alternatively, place aspirated urine in a sterile container and transport to the lab within 2 hrs of collection.
- Cystoscopy urine:  collect in BD collection cup and transfer to a BD Vacutainer Plus C&S preservative tube (grey top), which maintains bacteria in urine specimen for 2 days at room temperature allowing for transport time.  Or alternatively, place urine in a sterile container and transport to the lab within 2 hrs of collection.
Specimen Required: Urine greater than 1 mL (Adult and Pediatric)
Referral:

Transport BD Vacutainer Plus C&S preservative tubes (grey top) at ambient temperature.
Transport urine without preservative to the lab within 2 hrs of collection.
Urine greater than 1 mL.
Urine specimen in sterile, leak-proof container must be transported to the lab within 2 hrs of collection.

Specimen Handling:
Transport sterile, leak-proof container (without preservatives) to the lab within 2 hours of collection, otherwise refrigerate for a maximum of 24 hours, by which time it must be received by the lab.  
Urine greater than 24 hours old, not in preservative will NOT be processed.
Transport BD Vacutainer Plus C&S preservative tubes (grey top) at ambient temperature.
