SUCCINYLACETONE, (BLOOD SPOT)

Clinical Information:
Patients with Tyr 1 who are treated with diet and/or NTBC should have declining or normal values of blood spot succinylacetone.  Normal levels may be seen in affected individuals undergoing treatment.
Collection Devices:
1 Blood spot card (Mayo supply T493)
Specimen Required: Blood Spot Card (5 spots).  Minimum 1 spot.  Let blood dry on the filter paper at room temperature in a horizontal position for 3 hours.  Do not expose specimen to heat or direct sunlight.  Do not stack wet specimens.  Keep specimen dry.

An interpretive report will be provided.

Follow up testing for positive newborn screen for tyrosinemia type 1.
