Test Indications: This sensitive test is useful for detecting low levels of antibodies present in pre-diabetic and newly diagnosed diabetic patients. It predicts future development of type 1 diabetes in asymptomatic children, adolescents and young adults when used in conjunction with family history, HLA-typing, and other antibodies, including GAD65 and Islet cell antigen antibodies (IA-2). The test is also useful in the differential diagnosis of type 1 versus type 2 diabetes.
