Clinical Information:

Test performed by St. Boniface Hospital Immunology  Lab using a multiplex method.   Test detects antibodies to Sm Antigen epitopes not exposed in the SmRNP configuration.  Anti Sm antibodies are found in approximately 30% of patients with SLE. When positive, they are very specific for SLE and are associated with anti RNP antibodies.

Separate serum; store and ship serum aliquot refrigerated.  Do NOT freeze.

Negative = 0 – 0.9 AI

A negative result does not necessary exclude an autoimmune disease. Positive results are consistent with Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
