Test Indications:
Patients <17 years of age, St. Amant Centre residents and patients under the care of a physician listed as a gastroenterologist according to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba with suspicion of H. pylori-associated gastritis and peptic ulcer disease, or as a diagnostic test-of-cure after completed therapy. Recommendations: Treatment with proton-pump inhibitors should be discontinued at least 2 weeks prior to testing (Am J Gastroenterol 2017; 112: 212–238). If using the antigen test as a test-of-cure, at least four weeks should elapse since the end of therapy and proton-pump inhibitors must be withheld for 2 weeks prior to testing. (Am J Gastroenterol 2017; 112: 212–238) Patient Preparation Instructions: Accurate patient identification must be made prior to sample collection. Samples and requisitions must be labeled/completed in accordance with the Shared Health Specimen Acceptance Policy. Discontinue proton-pump inhibitors at least 2 weeks prior to testing and discontinue antibiotics at least 4 weeks prior to testing. Consult your physician for more information. |

Specimen Handling:
If submitted fresh, unrefrigerated specimens must be received within 1 hour of collection. If required, specimen may be held up to 72 hours at 2-8ºC. Ensure specimens are sent using appropriate packaging in accordance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulation. |
