American Thoracic Society Clinical Practice Guidelines recommend vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) testing to establish the diagnosis of LAM before proceeding to diagnostic lung biopsy in patients whose CTscan shows cystic abnormalities characteristic of LAM. The guidelines recommend a VEGF-D diagnostic threshold of 800 pg/mL.
