BLOOD CULTURE (61 LBS OR MORE) - (B)
Test Code: BLD1, BLD2, BLD3
Clinical Information:
1. Use appropriate number of bottles for volume of blood drawn.
2. Do not refrigerate
3. For systemic TB or fungi, contact Microbiology
4. Immediate verbal report if culture is positive
5. If blood cultures are drawn from lines, an accompanying peripheral blood culture is optimal.

2 - Blood Culture Bottle(s) - Aerobic  - Visually inspect blood culture bottle for contamination and check expiry date prior to using. Discard any bottle showing turbidity.
Alternate Device:
1 - Blood Culture Bottle - Anaerobic  - Visually inspect blood culture bottle for contamination and check expiry date prior to using. Discard any bottle showing turbidity.
Specimen Required:
Blood: 30.0 mL

Ensure proper venipuncture site preparation.
Aerobic (10mL) and Anaerobic (10mL) from one peripheral site, Aerobic (10mL) from second peripheral site.
