Test Indications:
Unexplained stillbirth. Recommendations: Carefully separate the amnion from the chorion taking care not to contaminate between the membranes. Have another staff person help if possible. Swab deep down between the two membranes with sterile swab from the eSwab. See photo for detailed explanation of where to swab (link below). Indicate on microbiology requisition and swab - amnion/chorion swab “culture-- unexplained stillbirth”. The specimen and requisition should be labelled with the mother's demographics and PHIN. This specimen should be sent with a nasal swab from the stillborn infant. Collect a nasal swab from both nares of the infant PRIOR to bathing the infant. Indicate on microbiology requisition and swab - nasal swab “culture-- unexplained stillbirth”. The specimen and requisition should be labelled with the mother's demographics and PHIN. This specimen should be sent with an amnion/chorion swab from the stillborn infant Patient Preparation Instructions: Accurate patient identification must be made prior to sample collection. Samples and requisitions must be labeled/completed in accordance with the Shared Health Specimen Acceptance Policy. |
