Description: Test to be used for transplant patient screening for cotinine, which is the major nicotine metabolite from tobacco. This test is a component of the Comprehensive Drug Screen. Specific comment for cotinine will be reported for transplant patients, if a request for cotinine testing for reason of transplant is listed on the ordering requisition.

Recommendations: Results are for medical diagnostic purposes only. Test results are presumptive. No chain of custody in collection and transportation of sample for testing. Not suitable for employment or legal purposes or other statutory regulations.
Urine: 3.0 mL
Refrigerated: Samples should be stored and sent refrigerated if delivered within 7 days.
Frozen: Samples need to be frozen if delivery to lab exceeds 7 days.
Other comments: Specimen received greater than 30 days post collection will not be tested

Reference Intervals: Drugs and metabolites detected will be listed on report if present. For cotinine determination in transplant patients, “No Cotinine Detected” will be reported if cotinine is not detected.
