Laboratory: Clinical Immunology
Test Name:
ANTI-NUCLEAR ANTIBODIES SCREEN - (S)
Test Code: ANA
Clinical Information:
Testing performed at St. Boniface Hospital Immunology Lab.  All requests are tested using a multiplex method.  ANA screen test includes the following individual specificities:
dsDNA, SSA/Ro (52,60), SSB/La, Sm, SmRNP, RNP (68,A), Scl-70, Jo-1,  Centromere B, Ribosomal P, Chromatin.
Extractable Nuclear Antigens (ENA) are included in the ANA screen and will not be reported if the ANA screen is negative.
Test is NOT available for fluids.

It is important to consider that this type of test is of most predictive value when there is a supporting clinical scenario of systemic rheumatic disease.
Notes:
1.  Approx. 5% of healthy individuals may show positive reactivity; this incidence increases with age.
2.  Because RNA polymerase III is not included in this screen, results may be negative in patients with certain subsets of systemic sclerosis.  In these instances, request for Hep-2 Screen is recommended.
