Ketoacidosis results from increased ketogenesis with the accumulation of ketone bodies. Ketone bodies consist of D-beta-hydroxybutyrate, acetoacetate and acetone. In all forms of ketosis D-beta-hydroxybutyrate is the ketone body present in highest concentration.
