Laboratory: Clinical Biochemistry
Test Name:
UREA/CREATININE RATIO - (P)
Test Code: --
Clinical Information:
Test Indications:  The urea creatinine ratio is automatically calculated and reported when urea is elevated and creatinine has also been ordered. It is used to help determine if the cause of increased blood urea is pre renal, renal, or post renal in origin. An increased ratio indicates a pre renal origin provided that there is no liver disease or starvation.

Urea/Creatinine Ratio = [Urea (mmol/L) x 1000] / Creatinine (µmol/L)

The conversion factor of 1000 in the equation is to compensate for the difference in units between urea and creatinine.
