Clinical Information:
Test Indications: This test is used as a second or third order test for evaluating testosterone status (eg. when abnormalities of sex homone-binding globulin are present). It is also used when testosterone immunoassay results appear inconsistent with the clinical assessment.
Testosterone by LC-MS/MS
Free testosterone by equilibrium dialysis
Bioavailable testosterone by differential precipitation of SHBG
Must be approved by a Clinical Chemist prior to sendout.

Collection Devices:
Serum GEL tubes are not acceptable.
Morning (0700 – 1000h) fasting samples, collected on two or more occasions to minimize biological variability, are recommended for the assessment of male hypogonadism.
Specimen Required:

Serum: 3.5 mL
Pediatric Serum: 2.0 mL
Reference Values:
A descriptive report will be sent.
