Test Indications: Investigating primary aldosteronism (eg, adrenal adenoma/carcinoma and adrenal cortical hyperplasia) and secondary aldosteronism (eg, renovascular disease, salt depletion, potassium loading, cardiac failure with ascites, pregnancy, Bartter syndrome).

Plasma: 1.0 mL
Collection Information: · The recommended collection time is 7-10 a.m., after the patient is active (walking, standing, seating) for at least 2 hours. Patient must be seated for 5-15 min prior to collection. · Collect EDTA plasma. Serum or lithium heparin plasma are not acceptable. · Do not pre-chill EDTA blood collection tubes nor store tubes on ice, but process blood at room temperature to avoid cryoactivation of prorenin in renin testing. · Centrifuge tubes in a non-refrigerated centrifuge, separate EDTA-plasma from cells immediately after centrifugation, then aliquot and deep-freeze at -20 °C or below instantly. Specimen Stability: Ambient: 6 hours Refrigerated: not stable Frozen: 3 days at -20oC or at least 1 month at -80°C
