Clinical Information:

Test performed at St. Boniface  Hospital Immunology Lab. SmRNP includes detection of antibodies against the combined SmRNP antigen configuration (Sm + RNP + RNP-A: U1 RNP-C protein C-terminal region motif of proteins A, C, and B/B1, U1RNA, snRNP particles U2,U4/U6, U5).  A positive result can be found in patients with SLE, MCTD, or Sjogrens’ Syndrome.

A negative result does not necessarily exclude autoimmune disease.  Positive results should not be interpreted in isolation and must be correlated with relevant clinical findings.
